Tiet / Roads
For my first photo post I thought I would show some lesser seen images from my most recent travels. After all the driving I’ve done, I’ve developed a fascination with roads (Tiet in Finnish) in the Nordic landscape. The endless stretches over plateaus and the switchbacks through the mountains bring a unique scale into the images and remind me of how truly insignificant I am in wilderness of the north.
New Posts to Come
It’s been a while since I last posted here and in the time that has passed a great deal has happened in my life. Among other things, this past summer I spent nearly a month driving over 15,000 kilometres around Finland, Sweden and Norway, living out of my 1992 Mazda 626. For my American readers, thats about 9,300 miles, or roughly three times the distance between New York City and San Francisco. I witnessed beautiful and vast landscapes, met kind people and felt more free than I ever have before. Later I spent 10 days in Japan, traversing the island by train and visiting many cities along the way. The photo opportunities in both the Nordic Countries and Japan were unbelievable and hopefully I will eventually find the time to process and post all of the best images that I captured. I am now back at school in Worcester, MA, USA where I am taking a digital photo course this semester that requires that I maintain a blog of my work as it is produced. Naturally, I decided to put my personal blog back to use for this purpose so from now until December I will be making regular posts here!
Photos unrelated to my coursework will of course be going up on Flickr as per usual:
